Shakti Durga’s Senior Disciples

Shakti Durga has 11 senior disciples who play major roles in helping to run Shanti Mission and its various arms and projects. They are also involved in many of their own projects. Shakti Durga has deep admiration for each member of the group below, and respects their unique flavours and approaches to thinking and life. She consults with this group regularly and expects them to lovingly challenge her and each other. The members of this leadership group also take their responsibilities as spiritual teachers and leaders very seriously and understand that at times it can be quite demanding. They provide each other with a kind of ‘peer review’ system and support each other and Shakti Durga on a regular basis.

What is a Disciple?

The word ‘disciple’ is not often heard in the West, but we deliberately use this word because of its potency. Shakti Durga describes herself as a ‘disciple’ first and then a Guru. Her Guru is Sri Sakthi Amma. She has had other Guru’s in the past (see her biography for more information). A ‘disciple’ is a student, but with a very deep connection to a teacher, which is why that teacher is called a ‘Guru.’ The relationship of the guru-disciple is one of commitment, love and compassion. A Guru’s job, in our school, is to be dedicated to the disciples to help them awaken, become personally empowered and realise their full potential. The disciple’s job is to follow the 8 Pillars that form the basis of the school’s philosophy and approach. You can access teacher profiles for Shakti Durga’s senior teachers and disciples on the Shanti Mission website.

A senior disciple is someone who truly embodies a Guru’s teachings in action; they are living examples of the teachings put into practice on a regular and consistent basis and on a deep level. Many of Shakti Durga’s senior disciples are also gurus, in their own right, with their own disciples. In fact, after years (and lifetimes) of spiritual work, many of them are well positioned and very able to start their own missions and schools, but have thankfully chosen to stay in Shanti Mission and continue helping with the ‘mission’ to create a golden age of peace on earth. Shakti Durga explains the disciple concept in the Shakti Durga TV video below or read our FAQ on Gurus.

Savitur Dhanvantre, Council of LightSavitur Dhanvantre is the Spiritual Director of Shanti Mission America. His real job description is restorer of light and life. Savitur is in his element when teaching, healing and empowering others. He is an internationally sought after Master healer and teacher who runs courses, sees clients and facilitates regular retreats in Australia and around the world. In all that he does, Savitur radiates a calm, loving presence that invites his students and clients to feel safe and held. He is a master of compassion who loves to serve. Savitur is a beloved Guru in his own right, known for his unflappable strength, as well as an innate sense of joy. Wherever Savitur is, laughter is never far away. Savitur was born in the UK, travelled widely, and prior to learning counselling and energy work was a competitive horseman. Spirituality drew him in from a young age; he was naturally quite clairvoyant and sensitive to energy, even as a child – talents that would come in very handy for his future vocation. Mostly, his early life taught Savitur compassion and honest-to-goodness non-judgment of those around him as he was exposed to people from all walks of life. He knew that life could be messy and yet ultimately we’re all children of the Divine doing the best we can. Savitur had trained for many years in creative counselling and psychotherapy prior to finding Shanti Mission. But it’s when he started to learn energy work and Ignite Your Spirit Therapy that his life really started to change. He found he was able to help clients process not just their thoughts and feelings, but release the energy those thoughts and feelings had been stored in. He realised this was the missing piece of the puzzle when what previously would have taken months or even years for a client to process was now happening in a matter of a few sessions. Today Savitur lives in Byron Shire in northern NSW. He offers fortnightly meditations and healings in Sydney, and sees clients via Skype from around the world. Savitur loves the teachings of the world’s great Gurus and traditions. He was deeply inspired in his early 20s when he read the book Sai Baba – The Holy man and the Psychiatrist, and although never visited Sai Baba’s ashram he loves the message of ‘love all serve all’. He was deeply grateful to meet his Guru Shakti Durga whilst serving coffee in a cafe in Sydney and has never looked back. He says her remarkable, practical and transformative teachings, are so congruent and accessible for the western mind.

Shekinah, Spiritual Teacher and HealerShekinah’s pure bliss is teaching, healing and seeing others shine. She loves to work with people to empower them to bring Heaven to Earth in their own lives. Part of Shekinah’s mastery is with the Kabalistic tradition and the Tree of Life, which often come through in her healings and teaching. Shekinah treasures her healing practice and welcomes clients into the intimacy of her home in Malabar in Eastern Sydney, where she lives with her beloved, their two children and adorable dog Oli. Shekinah first found Shakti Durga and Shanti Mission after years of study in Kinesiology, energetic healing, Reiki, Bach Flowers and Essences, Holistic Counseling and many other modalities. Seven years ago, she sent out a prayer to find her spiritual teacher and to be mentored in an intimate way by a master. Within two months she met Shakti Durga, then swiftly completed the Path of Ease and Grace and Therapist Training. For five years, she served as spiritual leader of the Sydney Harmony Centre. “During an Ignite Your Spirit Therapy healing session I work with the client on all levels of their being: especially the mental, emotional and soul realm to help them to embody more of their soul than ever before. We start off getting all the chakras nice and open and then delve into the unknown to get to the core of an issue. This can take us into past life events that need to be healed and released, into our childhood or family history to release stuck energy and create a new way of being. Anything can happen and that is what makes my work so much fun. When I open as a channel for healing miraculous things occur. I am constantly in awe of the power of the Divine and the beauty of every client I have the honour of working with,” Shekinah says. Her pin-ups at the moment (beside Shakti Durga and husband Lance of course) are Ram Das and Z’ev ben Shimon Ha Levi – beautiful and pure souls she’s inspired by every day. Ganga Hanuman, Spiritual Teacher and HealerGanga may be small but she is incredibly mighty. She’s affectionately known as ‘the pocket rocket’ – because her small frame contains incredible potency and purity as a healer. Her warmth, humility and humour combine to help melt away any fear or anxiety, helping clients and students alike to feel relaxed, calm and cared about from the start. Ganga also teaches programs on personal empowerment. Ganga is also a senior teacher of the Path of Ease and Grace – and has worked with many hundreds of students and clients on courses, in private sessions and on retreats with Shakti Durga in Australia and around the world. She is a devoted ally and friend to the soul, passionately committed to lifelong service. Ganga first found the Harmony Centre in early 2006. At the time, she was a practicing remedial massage therapist with a curiosity about energy and chakras, but like many people had been put off by formal religion and was not much of a fan of the ‘G-word’ (God). Never say the Divine doesn’t have a sense of humour. Today if meditation were an Olympic sport, Ganga would be a five-time gold medal champion. Her Divine connection is palpable and blissful. She has an intimate understanding of the inner plane and helps others to bring the beauty of the soul and divine realm into their daily lives; tuning into their own guidance and growing in self-mastery. Her name, of course, is inspired by the great river in India – and the energy of Ganga signifies purification, transformation and liberation. Ganga sees clients at the Harmony Centre in Cooranbong north of Sydney and regularly on Skype from around the world.

Shive-webShiva Kata Tjuta is a Director on the board of Shanti Mission. He is Shakti Durga’s partner in life and has assisted Shakti Durga for many years with the inception, creation and birthing of her charity, Shanti Mission. Shiva seeks to treat everyone as an individual, understanding that we are all different. Having been a professional problem solver for many years as a successful lawyer and partner of a very large law firm, he says “solving problems is a hard habit to shake.” He aspires to be love, strength and wisdom on legs! Shiva Kata Tjuta’s name incorporates aspects of the Divine, which he seeks to live up to and be in the world. “Shiva” relates to ‘consciousness’ or ‘pure consciousness without form’, which is different to the mind or the intellect. “Kata Tjuta” is the original Aboriginal name for large domed rock formations southwest of Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of Central Australia, meaning ‘many faces’ or ‘many aspects’. He has always felt deep within himself, that he had many aspects and faces in the many different roles in his life in both the corporate and spiritual world. He also always felt a very deep connection to the land which makes up the Australian continent and a strong affinity with Aboriginal Australians’ long standing guardianship of that land and the belief of many of them that their spirit is the land. Shiva Kata Tjuta seeks to be his authentic self in all his endeavours while continuing to learn, grow and live into his essence in straddling both a Divine spiritual path and a business worldly path. He holds the strong belief that every single person has something unique to offer, which is themself. When he seeks to help others he understands that what others may perceive to be his wisdom and teachings is just as Divine as that which comes from anyone else, but what come from him is infused with his personal and spiritual journey, his life experiences and his connectivity with the Divine. Shanti Mission was created by the dreams and aspirations of Shakti Durga and Shiva Kata Tjuta and from their vision of how they could make a difference in the world in addition to their professional vocation as lawyers. In living that vision, they learned that that if you dream big and are prepared to take time and make an effort to create what you dream, you can make a significant difference in the world. His role in Shanti Mission today is as a strong supporter of, and support for, Shakti Durga and Shanti Mission. Shiva Kata Tjuta always knew that the Divine was fully within him. “I have not always used those words and have not always behaved as if the Divine was in me, in the sense of acting as if I was embodying the Divine, but that’s life and we all have growing edges going through it so we can stub our toes and learn. However, I have always understood that when wonderful things happened to me, it was the Divine coming through me and that when not so good things happened, the Divine was still in me.”
