I thought you might like to know how the whole giving up sugar thing is going. I am pleased to say, its going really well! It has been a month now since I last had sugar or more precisely fructose as part of my diet. Having thrown out all foods containing 5% or more of sugar from the house, it feels different at home and I now realize how many sugar elementals were living in my kitchen before!
It feels like my body is getting used to the changes in a gradual way, and I have experienced a couple of waves of detox with a feeling of a thick head and feeling just a bit off my game a few times. I guess lots of old stuff is being released from my cells.
When I reflect on it, my entire life has been filled with sugar as a reward, and sweet food has been very much associated for me with being nurtured and loved. No wonder it seemed so hard to give it up.
After 30 years I have reverted to butter instead of vegetable oil spreads, full creme milk instead of light, and this too seems to be creating some internal rebalance.
Because fructose, which is in virtually everything processed, is no longer jamming my appetite control system, I am naturally eating less than before. I feel more satisfied and don’t have sugar cravings. Anyway, it is a continuing journey. If you are interested in this, two health foodies in our community Dorian and Anjani will be running a workshop on sugar free cooking in Cooranbong soon – the date will be on the Shanti Mission calendar.
lots of love
