I hope that you are enjoying the beautiful spring weather here in Australia. Our home is drenched in warming sunlight, the birds are noisy with their songs of love and happiness.
Each cycle of the year brings us new energy and new opportunity to reflect and rebalance our lives. Unfortunately many people live in ‘groundhog day’ a term made famous by a movie of the same name, where through some loop in time, the same day kept happening… again and again and again.
If your life sometimes feels like ground hog day, there are some things you can do.
Try something new. Since university days, I have made a point of doing something really different to what I normally do, each year. The diversity of where this has taken me is quite amazing. And, that’s the whole point. We tend to stick to what we know, and do more of that because it feels safe and familiar. But, your soul loves to learn. It loves variety and you will benefit from adapting, making time for and pursuing something that your curiosity leads you towards.
Over the years my own list has included having a go at so many different things and the list includes: learning yoga, stretch knit sewing, playing squash, learning snow skiing, wine appreciation, knitting, meditation, various cooking styles, shadow work, vegetable gardening, experiencing counselling, home painting and renovation, being a mum, (this one includes too many ‘firsts’ and new needed skills to list) sailing yachts, getting my maritime license to skipper small boats, learning teaching skills, counselling skills, crystal dreaming, reiki, pranic healing, travel to new places, starting a PhD in education, giving that up to start Harmony Centers, singing lessons, mantra, puja, playing the harp, learning about writing books, you can tell I must be getting old that so many things are here on this list and there are others that I have right now forgotten.
During this time of Covid when our usual ways of passing time are curtailed, you can feel restricted or you can turn it into an opportunity to broaden your awareness, learn new skills, practice something new and enrich your life.
Normally I would give a new thing at least 8 weeks. Some things stick, and some don’t. It doesn’t really matter. It’s about the experience, to know that you are entering into the richness of life and allowing your self-expression some air time. When we don’t do this, we can feel small, separate, disconnected and discontented. Who wants that? Avail yourself of the incredible resource of the internet, online and you tube classes which are available even when we are locked down. Light up your world and choose to find joy wherever you are, whatever you are doing.
