Doubts and Fears

If in doubt check it out!

Do you ever have the experience of your mind filling you with doubts and fears, maybe about whether someone loves you, or cares, or whether or not they will do what they said they will? Before you know it you are projecting all kinds of things on them, and they may not have even the foggiest idea of what you are on about. And even more interesting, they may never have even thought the stuff you are busy assuming is their truth! This is one of the reasons why it is prudent for us to meditate or do a spiritual practice that connects us with the Divine when such things arise. When we connect, we can receive insight and rectify our consciousness. We can see another point of view, and that is helpful.

Nevertheless, it is still prudent to do a cleansing practice, like have a healing or do inner reflection technique to erase the troublesome thoughts. Because they have a habit of breeding, coming back again unless we are proactive in ‘weeding the garden of the mind’.

Years ago we learned about a tool called the Co-operative Mode. One of the principles used is that we have a conversation to check out ‘paranoid fantasies’ with the person concerned, to find out what is really going on. I am not talking about actual paranoia in the medical sense, just the tendency that our egos have of thinking the worst. By checking things out, we can avoid a lot of conflict and maintain great relationships. At this time of year when many are tired and just wanting to get through to the holidays, it is even more important than normal to do the inner housekeeping – with a dash of good humour to boot.
